Interested persons are asked to give priority to members in central Oregon; there will be a class in the Willamette Valley in the spring timeframe.

Registration is now open and live for the ACES Basic emergency communications course in Central Oregon. The course takes place at the Crooked River Ranch Fire & Rescue station @ 6971 SW Shad Road in Terrabonne, OR on Saturday November 7 and Sunday  November 8. The course will run 0800 – 1700 each day; plan on bringing a sack lunch both days. We try very hard to make it a working lunch, and the schedule is pretty packed.

Residents and volunteers in Jefferson, Deschutes, and Crook counties are first in line for registration, with all other Oregon counties on a space-available basis. For this offering, we’re prioritizing folks east of the Cascades. Note: there is usually space for everyone who wants to attend. Emergency managers: please share with your ARES / ACS / CERT volunteers!

Participants will need to complete IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700 through FEMA’s online Emergency Management Institute (EMI) prior to certification. You may take the ACES course if you haven’t completed the FEMA courses and you will receive your ACES certificate after completing the FEMA courses. Students are required to bring a portable radio and manual for programming practice and passing traffic. If you are not an amateur radio operator (ARO) and instead use other methods (FRS, GMRS, MURS, CB), you may be paired up with an ARO during the exercises.

With permission from organization leadership and/or the AHJ sponsor, ACES Basic attendees can be issued an All-Hazards Radio Operator (RADO) Position Task Book for future qualification and credentialling through the State of Oregon if desired.
