To All CARES Members–
Lake Oswego ARES has been running a weekly Winlink training net for the last two years. Winlink skills perish quickly and a weekly net provides a way to keep up practice, learn new skills and broaden our understanding of the Winlink system.
The net works like this: Each Wednesday, an assignment is sent out via a Winlink message to all net participants. There is no prescribed net time to meet and connect. You simply perform the tasks requested and respond by the following Tuesday no later than 0500. Some tasks are trivial, and others are a bit more difficult. Typically, it takes between 15 minutes to 30 minutes to work on the weekly assignment.
The Net does assume that you have a basic working knowledge of the Winlink system. Some, but not all, of the exercises can be done using Telnet. Each week the instructors will take you through Winlink features that you need in order to operate within the emcomm environment.
If you are interested in joining the net please send a message to loareswknet to get added to the list*. We will be starting with basics on October 30. Note that if you do not have a Winlink account, you will have to create one and at least get Winlink Express running prior to participating.
* Note that it is preferred that you use the Winlink system to contact the net control team. If you wish to use email, you can but send your message to loareswknet@winlink.org. You will need to start your subject line with //WL2K/ .
